Scandola natural reserve: a paradise!

Galeria - Girolata: 35km - 6h40min La nostra colazione e' sempre molto lenta, ricca di zuccheri e chiacchiere: di solito impieghiamo tra le 2 e le 3 ore per smontare il campo e prendere il mare. Stamattina invece abbiamo ridotto i tempi perche' avevamo un appuntamento speciale: la riserva naturale della Scandola, uno dei tratti di costa piu' belli del Mar Mediterraneo. Ci sono solo tre punti di sbarco tra il paesino di Galeria e quello di Girolata, piccole spiagge di ciottoli rossi come le scogliere alte che incororano la costa. E' una sequenza ininterrotta di pinnacoli rocciosi, di grotte borbottone, di scogli scenografici, di archi aperti sul mare e di bocche spalancate sull'acqua color smeraldo. Uno spettacolo affascinante che ci ha lasciato tutti a bocca aperta: dopo 30 km abbiamo gli occhi pieni di pareti strapiombanti rosso fuoco ed i gavoni dei kayak di sassi policromi. Siamo così fortunati da avvistare anche alcuni esemplari di falco pescatore che volteggiano sui loro nidi di rami intrecciati grandi come culle per neonati; all'ingresso nel Golfo di Girolata ci accolgono tanti pesci volanti e delle piccole velella velella, le meduse con la veletta trasparente Il porto trabocca di motoscafi e barche a vela e la notte si illumina delle loro luci in testa d'albero e delle lucine gialle dei ristorantini sul mare, allineati ai piedi della torre fortificata... Galeria - Girolata: 19nm - 6h40min Our breakfast is always very lengthy, full of sugars and chatters: we usually waste between the 2 and the 3 hours to take off the camp site and to launch the kayaks on the sea. Tomorrow, on the contrary, we reduced the breakfast times because we have a very special appointment: the Scandola Natural Reserve, one of the most beautiful coast of the Mediterranean Sea. There are only three places to land between Galeria and Girolata, the others are forbidden... but there are not much more places than just those three: small beaches of red stones between tall rocky cliffs. It is a nonstop magic show of rocky pinnacles, big caves, spectacular stacks, little islands and rocky arcs open out on the emerald water of the sea. A fascinating show that leave us litterarly pen-mouthed: after 19 nm we have the eyes full of  red walls and the hatch full of red stones. We are so lucky to also meet some exemplary of osprey, blowing in circle around the unbeliveable nests made in dead wood and as big as a cradle. Entering into the Girolata bay we receive also the welcome of many flying fishes and small Velella Velella, a trasparent jellyfish with a small sail on the top. The Girolata harbour is full of motorboats and sailboats: the night is illuminates by their lights and the yellow lights of the restaurants on the seabord, just below the fortified Genoese tower...
