Buona lettura!
Some time ago, coming back from our Corse sea kayak trip, we have received the flattering request of publishing the story of the island's circumnavigation on the the International Canoes Federation prestigious annual pubblication "Planet Canoe", a non-commercial pubblication distributed to over 157 countries and to all the ICF events. The media and public relation manager who had contacted us in the month of October 2012 asked for an article of 1200-1500 words and a maximum of 10 picutres for the "Adventures & Expedition" section of the new number, that would be available in print in February 2013. We waited to receive some paper copies of the magazine and to download the on-line format in March 2013, but nothing is ever happened. We had however asked and the precious collaboration of Albert Gambina for the English translation of the article, so after a couple of year it seems to us pretty fair to publish on the blog the draft of that missed publication, in order to have a sort of reminder of the job done and never given to the press...
Some friends always ask me why I usually collect so many stones, shells, woods, little balls and sand.
My sea kayak trips are often turned into long, untiring and endless collecting of things, natural or not. I like to think they are gifts from the sea, softly deposited on the beach close to my kayak... a lot of the most beautiful things that I found on the sand were really close to the bow or to the cockpit of the kayak!
When I came back home, I always find the way to still dream about the trip, working with that little pieces of wood, those polychrome sands or that smoothed pebbles...

We finally have time enough to update the blog, translate the message in English and put some pictures of the sea kayak circumnavigation... it was a little jump into the past to resume the high spots of this marvellous trip!
We want to thanks again our fantastic paddler buddies: with them, all of them, the trip was really better! Don't be sad: next sea kayak trip is just around the corner...
p.s. I apologise for my homemade translation and for the Italian review of the English grammar!
The earth seen by a sea keyak is mooooore beautiful!
The baguettes must be eaten fresh!
The Corse roads are inclement both with driver and passenger!
The Corse inland has the same character of the inhabitants: reserved and hospitable!
Camping in larch tree wooden is forbidden due to the tall hazard of fires: so we spend the last night in the touristic harbour of Bastia!
The toilet in the maritime station is not worth a little angol of perfumed maquis!
The tacos are maybe better than kebab: enjoy multi-ethnic diches!
The cement of the harbour is the hardest couch of the island!
When you decide for a bivouac, than it will surely rain!
French produce a special evaporeted milk: Regilait is better than Nestlè!
The dawn is the best time to enjoy the colors, the odors and the humors of the city!
If you have a se kayak trailer, than you need fully wheels!
Greenland paddle arouses the curiosity of all the bikers waiting for to ferry!
Sleeping is a good remedy against the sea sickness!
Sea kayak friends are precious: Giovanni bring us the car into the Genoa harbour!
Unpacking kayaks is quicker than packing, but it is most difficult: you have to put back your desire of ridesharing!
Empy kayaks are weigh less than a feather!
The Italian highways don't have anything of the mysterious charm of Corse dirt roads!
Postpone the cleanings of house, the washing of dirty clothes and the controll of the gear is the best way to face the job!
Unbelievable how much stuff can enter into a kayak, isn't it?!
The first thought races to our trip friends: they are surely paddling also this week-end!
Passions are contagious: Greg&Bea are surely happy to know that I now have 21 new succulents to pot!
I will be busy the entire week to wash all that shells, sands, pebbles, woods and shapeser I've found on the Corse beaches: Tatiyak leave the place to Pietrafatata!
Mauro is distraught: he has only one pumice stone find in Bonifacio!
We spent the last two days driving around the island, passing from Bastia to Porto and from Ajaccio to Porto Vecchio, following the tortuous roads of the Balagne and Ghisonaccia, along the most famous gorges of the Natural Park of Course.

Sbagliando: troviamo ancora caldo e caos!
A light breeze pushes our kayaks to north: we reach Bastia in less than three hours.
At four o'clock in the afternoon, after 710 Km, we finally reach the little touristic harbour from where we have started this sea kayak trip 26 days ago. We have so completed the circumnavigation of hte island with a relaxed speed and with extraordinarily favorable weather conditions (except for the "baptism" and the "night navigation" in Cape Corse!).
There is a nautical center near the slipway of the harbour: we decide to live there the kayaks for the next three days.
The manager of the center welcomes us with a great smile: Did you paddle around the island? Yes, but we arrived three days before. Then start for another one - he says.
Then he tells us about Italy and Italians: I come to your country quite often and I usually meet nice people. He ask for the garaging just a bottle of rosè wine!
We take a rental car and we immediately bottle into the traffic.
The return to the civilization is extremely traumatic: Mauro get off the car to smoge and going by foot he precedes us out of the town. Dario invites us for a pizza in Erbalunga, where we have had our first pit-stop, and for the night we come back to the beach near Biguglia pond, where we have had our last lunch break.
With a car the distances are completely reset: now we are totally alone, just Mauro and me, because Dario has also take the ferry. We decide to explore the inland of the island looking for green landscape and fresh air. Being wrong: we foung again hot and chaos!
We're writing this post while we're sitting in a typical coffee bar in the historical center of Corte, the heart of Corsica: Mauro stops mumble just for drinking one after the other fresh cups of beer Pietra...Tatiana Cappuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17880139533942001071noreply@blogger.com0Bastia - Corsica42.706911848836882 9.454851150512695342.703994848836885 9.4499156505126951 42.709828848836878 9.4597866505126955tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5358535775059272133.post-4027008566693365392012-08-22T18:37:00.002+02:002012-09-18T20:09:22.483+02:00OK message - 22.8.2012 h.18.37Tatiyak SPOT
This is our last holiday week: we sincerely hope that the first day at job for Gregorio is too much traumatic for him.
We have shared the night camp with a solitary paddler with a yellow plastic kayak and the first morning with an Italian guy coming from Turin, Alessandro, who is spending is holidays with the family and with a black Aleutian paddle.
During the circumnavigation of the island we often meet many paddlers, almost every day, but always on sit-on-top or stand-up-paddle: paddling is a silent way to live the sea, a good opposite for those awful jetskies that afflicting the air and Mauro's nerves (... if you know the above video, you can easily understand because we are all definitely lined up on the tunas side...).
Today the coast is not very interesting: some naturist campings, some river outlets and some inland lagoons, than a military point and more white trunks modelled by the sea, the wind and the time.
Dario, our last paddler buddy, doesn't stop laughing: despite the trip is turning at the end, the last days seem endless days...Tatiana Cappuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17880139533942001071noreply@blogger.com0Alistro - Corsica42.259397560648864 9.5558738708496141.883309560648861 8.9241598708496088 42.635485560648867 10.18758787084961tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5358535775059272133.post-79316941483883772792012-08-20T20:57:00.002+02:002012-09-18T20:07:42.703+02:00OK message - 20.8.2012 h.20.57Tatiyak SPOT
We are now paddling without our friends Gregorio and Beatrice.
Two days paddling along a low, linear and sandy coast. However, we have had some little surprises: a series of low caves, deeo enough to receive just one kayak for time (the va'a crews has to leave the boat and swimm - those are big satisfactions, no?!?), a series of long sandy beaches and a series of white old trunks. Finally, a rusty wreck surmounted by a colony of sea crows just in front of our night free campsite.
Weather forcasts are very good: the sun is red and hot since the first hours of the morning, the sea is calm as a billiard table and the water is almost of the same color (not in every places!).
Two days we're feeling bit all alone.
We stop in Solenzara more for nostalgia that for necessity, we spent a lot of time into the supermarket and we dilate the lunch time to full four hours: in the shadow of the pines near the car parking of the market, we halve the trolley and for dinner we prepare the dishes preferred by Gregorio and Beatrice, gourmets in kayak and in the lifetime.
We so cook on the sound treck of the neighbouring camping: Indian music for noodles, Moroccan music for halal meat soup, local music for chestnuts sweets and yellow melon.
We have never eat so much and we're cooking as we be still five, better 6 when the group started the sea kayak trip aroung Corse...
Lawrence, Gregorio and Beatrice: the trip with you was a completely different music!!!
Errata corrige: Bonifacio is not the most busy harbour of the Mediterranean Sea.
The most busy harbour of the Mediterranean Sea is Porto Vecchio!
We reach it as always at the peak time, in late afternoon, after having paddled along the ample Bay of Saint Julia, the long beautiful beach of Palombaggia and the jagged head of Punta Chiappa.
In the entry channel there are all sort of motor boats, ferries, sailing boats, four floors yachts and some unbeliveable boats: dinghies towing fishing-lines or inflatable rafts for childrens - obviously ON, shouting into the waves - and an undetermined number of jet-skies doing acrobatic jumps beetwen the boats.
Cross the red and green lights is for sure the most dangerous thing we have faced during the trip.
But we finally land at Cala Verde - Green Bay, a little sandy beach in a handle of the endless Gulf of Porto Vecchio, called the Saint Tropez of the Corse.
We have dinner out with tasty tacos in a outdoor coffee-house managed by two Arab guys just out of the center of the busy town: for the first night, no beer and alcohol...Tatiana Cappuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17880139533942001071noreply@blogger.com0Porto Vecchio - Corsica41.602222225361778 9.2856788635253941.59034822536178 9.26593786352539 41.614096225361777 9.30541986352539tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5358535775059272133.post-87218844127966506942012-08-16T19:28:00.002+02:002012-09-18T20:03:03.114+02:00OK message - 16.8.2012 h.19.28Tatiyak SPOT
After 18 days of navigation around the island, yesterday we passed the notorious Strait of Bonifacio: the crossing to Lavezzi Island was bit animated by motorboats and the arrive was at the samre time of many other tourists ferries.
We had lunch between the cemetery of the Semillante and the Snoopy rock-cliff.
We had a swimm in the natural swimming pools riches of colored fishes and than we paddle along the Islands of Cavallo and Ratino, admiring for the first time some sail boats sailing toward the Maddalena Archipelago, far on the horizon.
Today we finally move the bows of the kayak to the north.
But we succeed in launching the kayaks just at 2 o'clock in the afternoon: to buy water, brad and fresh fruits, we must to climb the mountain to reach a small market.
Loaded with baguettes, biscuits to the chestnut, fresh cheeses and heavy bottles of water, we are so lucky to hitchhiking by an Austrian surfer and an enthusiastic Corse man: while he is driving, he leaves the steering wheel and uses the hands for giving us an applause!
We leave the sheltered Gulf of Santa Manza after lunch, with hatches full of red and white shells. Some dolphins swimm near the beach.
We stop in the least famous and to much frequented Rondinara Bay and after just 1o nm we land in the beautiful Bay of Porto Novo: we have dinner sitting on the white sand with grilled peppers than we put the tents under the pines and we greet the rise of the stars with a good myrtle grappa...Tatiana Cappuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17880139533942001071noreply@blogger.com0Porto Novo - Corsica41.498742495395412 9.269113540649414141.495769495395415 9.2641780406494139 41.501715495395409 9.2740490406494143tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5358535775059272133.post-49461136432494032032012-08-15T18:54:00.002+02:002012-09-18T20:02:04.334+02:00OK message - 15.8.2012 h.18.54Tatiyak SPOT
The small tourist harbour of the deep Figari Bay is embellished by an elegant white lighthouse with a blue cursive write: "Bienvenue", a beautiful way to greet the sailors.
The half moon beaches of red sand interchange the usual pink granite rocks, worked by the water and the wind, rounded curious forms and perfect rocky gardens when the wind blowing stronger.
The old tuna nets and the neglected lighthouse of Feno Head don't win the comparison with the wonderful and magical white cliff of Bonifacio: the emotion is great when we finally enter with the kayaks in the little beaches and big caves of the fiord of the village.
The harbour it is one of the most trafficked of the Mediterranean: we arrive at the pick hour, excactly when rafts, motorboats, sails, yachts and tourist ferries stand in a perfect long line to the reach their position into the harbour, with no respect of the speed limit of 5 knots and a fantastic waves.
The second beach of the fiord, deeper and protected, is already full of girls scout and the thin strip of white sand is too small for our kayaks: so we fall back to the first one, curiously desert but with big breaking waves every time the ferry to/from Sardinia enters and exits.
This morning the sun arrives after the first ferry's siren: an impertinent ferret has walked on the kayaks during the nights, doing raid and stealing a Mauro's slipper!
